Terms of use

Last updated

By reading or using Quotes and Poems (quotesandpoems.com) you agree to these terms. They are short and written in plain English.

Public-domain texts (free to use; please credit the poet)

The classic poems and quotes on this site are in the public domain under our rule: the author died before 1955 and the text was first published before 1931. That makes them public domain in the United States and in countries with a "life plus 70 years" rule, such as the UK and the EU.

You may copy, print and share these texts. Please credit the poet and, if you can, the work and year shown on our page.

Copyright rules differ between countries. If you live somewhere with a longer term, or plan to sell printed products, check your local rules first.

Our page layouts, notes, introductions and selections are our own work. Please do not copy whole pages to another website.

Our original poems: personal and classroom use with credit

Poems and verses labelled "Original - Quotes and Poems" are written by us. You may use them:

  • in personal cards, letters, speeches, funerals and weddings,
  • in classrooms and school work,

as long as you credit "Quotes and Poems". For anything commercial, such as printing them on products for sale or using them in a book, please ask us first via the contact page.

We link to free copies of the original editions (for example on Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive) and to other useful pages. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites.

Corrections and accuracy

We check every line, date and attribution against a source before we publish it, but mistakes can still happen. The site is provided as it is, without any promise that every detail is correct. Please tell us about errors via the contact page and we will fix them.

Nothing on this site is legal advice. Our notes on copyright explain why we include or leave out a text; they are not a ruling on your own use.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version. How we handle data is explained in the privacy policy, and who we are is on the about page.
